Kanchanaburi
Duration: 12 hours maximum
Best time to visit: All days of the week
The driver brings you to Kanchanaburi bridge, museum and graveyard and waits for your return.
Kanchanaburi is known worldwide as the Bridge over the River Kwai built in WWII by prisoners of war. Many people died from malnutrition, malaria and hepatitis, etc. The soldiers coming from Australia and Europe who died during their imprisonment are buried in the graveyard in Kanchanaburi. A museum tells the story of the soldiers and their hardship in Thailand. Every year in August veterans from all over the world remember the casualties of WWII in Kanchanaburi.
The wooden bridge over the River Kwai is replaced by an iron bridge and can be visited. Next to the bridge and the river is a nice restaurant. You can buy a ticket and join a ride in the yellow train over the railway track starting at one station. The driver picks you up where you leave the train. Travelling on the train is only possible when you can be lifted into the train and are in a manual wheelchair.
